Stressful, traumatic, quite frankly a nightmare!!!!!
Allied Pickfords must rank as close to the top of the most uncaring, mercenary companies I have ever had the displeasure of being associated with and I have worked all over the word in a professional capacity for nearly 45 years. During that time I have had the privilege dealing with thousands of international companies. The stress we have been through over the past 10 weeks as a result of the uncaring attitude (to the point of, in my view, gross incompetence) by Allied Pickfords’ staff on the departure side (Perth, Western Australia) and the receiving side (Johannesburg, South Africa) has beggared my belief and the ethical standard of their conduct (or rather lack thereof) of has astounded me. Once the contract had been signed and my money was in their bank account I rank their communication as 1/10 and their operational support in Perth as 0/10. The reasons we elected to contract Allied Pickfords (the second most expensive of 4 quotes obtained) for our move related to the fact that we would be dealing with the same company on both sides of the Indian Ocean, plus the fact that they carried their own insurance. Both reasons turned out be firstly, totally invalid, and secondly both of those reasons that we thought were positives, turned out to be extreme negatives. Then, on arrival in South Africa we experienced extortionist conduct from Allied Pickfords and I’m very happy to share the sordid details of their, what I consider to be horrendous ethical conduct in that our shipment was held to ransom and we were threatened with non-delivery unless we forked over an additional ZAR20,000. As pensioners on a very limited budget this was devastating to us! The cause of what led to the levying of those additional charges is still under investigation and potentially sub-judice however we found their actions to be completely mercenary, uncaring and unethical, and their conduct caused us horrendous stress throughout the ordeal. Whilst they will no doubt deny it, the jury is still out on whether the alleged addition costs incurred were as a result of an Allied Pickfords staff member not doing his job, or pure bad luck. At this stage I’ll not comment further however believe the former to hve been the case, or potentially even worse!!!!
