Sales was useful, packing was good, but felt cheated.
The people we dealt with were all very good and the packers did an excellent job. The fluidity of the move was 5 stars, but lack of upfront clarity is not good enough in this business.
We were quoted a price (granted with a footnote about costs not included on the other side, non-UK, of the shipment). This price was higher than the rest, but the service offer promised seemed to be worth the extra price tag. Then after collection and the shipment setting sail we get a note that the shipment is due to arrive in Cape Town (our destination) and that an extra payment is due, as expected.
However, the scale of the payment came as a surprise. Essentially adding 50% of the total cost, we had budgeted for. While a footnote (As mentioned above) points this out, I believe it is the duty of the sales people to help the non-merchant understand what costs lie ahead. After paying £2,000 and then receiving a bill for another £1,000 while my possessions are being "held captive" on-board a ship, is a mild form of extortion. I can hardly ask the ship to turn around at this point, so I am stuck having to pay a sizeable amount that I was not aware of.
I don't see how it can be difficult for an estimate to be provided to clients, rather than the support staff just saying "you had the footnote on the contract". That is not good enough if the footnote accounts for 33% of the total cost. The support staff asked me if I had not seen the footnote and I commented that this is not my profession and I am paying them a lot of money as professionals in the industry to help me understand what is coming my way. 1st Move International failed to meet a professional conduct standard and as such I would not suggest anyone to use their service.
